It was warm this morning and I decided to take the dogs to the park so they could get out and hopefully get rid of their cabin fever. They loved it. Missy jumped into the creek and pretty much got wet and muddy up to her chest ( and I just sent them to the groomer) Glock, who is a lab and doesn't like water, hung around on the muddy bank getting even more dirty than Missy. Thank goodness for Sam he is such a good dog, staying clean and still having a great time. He ran up and down the trails and his tail was not only wagging but it was going in circles. What does that mean? I guess you can say he was overjoyed. He wore a big doggy grin for the whole hour. When we got back to the house, I had to clean up the younger two which takes several towels and a little doggie air freshener. I wish they made frebreeze for dogs, they would sell a million bottles the first week.

I painted this ACEO... which stands for Artist Collector's Edition and Originals. 2.5 by 3.5 and watercolor on gessoed paper, it's $15.00. I love the lake and I painted this little card because I love water scenes.

This painting is actually entitled "Here be dragons" due to its
sort-of-eerie appearance. As Louise noted, I dove into Linda Kemp's
negative painting style. The original had mountains in the background,
but I didn't think they added anything, so I redid it without them.
Personally, I am quite pleased with this painting.

The Sea

I painted two of these today, not that I was overly motivated in fact I started out the day with no real idea as to what to paint.

I have a commissioned piece I want to start but I have to cut the paper from my large roll and that means asking my husband for help and clearing everything off my painting table. So I decided I would paint my daily painting and get it out of the way before getting out the big roll of paper which will take over my space.

Lately I have been painting snow scenes and I thought of painting another one but wasn't overly thrilled with that. I decided to clean up my painting area. This sometimes helps... getting organized makes painting easier once you have decided what to paint.

I swept, then I took out the trash... cleaned up my table by throwing away the used Kleenex & wet towels, also put away stray palette knives and pin knives, cleaned my brushes, got my water buckets filled, squeezed out fresh paint ( don't ask me why but this always gives me a bit of a trill) into my palette and looked down at the white paper with a "what now?"

This sometimes happens to all artists, especially if you have a deadline to paint a painting every single day. I decided to look thru some books. Hoping for some inspiration.

I was looking thru a book a pal of mine lent me about oceans and beautiful beaches all over the world and I realized I love the way water look...s not beaches but the actual water itself, its reflective qualities, color, shape, movement, it all intrigues me.
The first surface that I thought of to use was clay board because water on clay board is very slippery and no matter what you do it looks wet.
After doing one wave I did another using alcohol for the white. Alcohol when spritz on (or dropped in) pushes water away from the surface exposing the surface of the paper or in this case the clay board. It has a very natural appearance and is usually very circular in shape. I used it for the foam. It dries very fast and leaves the white area of your paper for you to reintroduce more color or just to leave as is.

This 8 inch by 11 inch painting is another painting of snow. You will often see me painting in a series. Sometimes three or four koi then three snow paintings then some flowers. Usually I paint the same subject matter till I get it out of my system or until something just bursts forth.

Hi, gang.

I'm trying to overcome my Luddite tendencies and get with the new-ish century, so I'm trying my first post to the blog.

I did get a painting done on Tuesday, and it is...okay. Not great, but not a total disaster. Yesterday I goofed off and drove to the mountains with my niece for a bout of cross-country skiing. (Hint, don't try to keep up with someone thirty years younger and fit. Next time I attach an anchor to her)

Today I'm trying to make up for the lost time by doing two pieces. One is almost done- a prairie scene, and one is patiently waiting- a trees against mountains (maybe) imagination scene with negative painting. This one needs a lot more work yet.

If I get one that's even 1/2 decent, I'll post it- Assuming I can figure out how.
